You are so right - we have to focus on tending to our inner peace because that’s what allows us to show up in love, caring and compassion for others. That’s what the world needs more of!

Incredible and resonant. I've been thinking a lot about this quote below and how it applies to all relationships in this world. When we are at soul peace, we can bring peace to others.

The most precious inheritance parents can leave their children is their own happiness. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Jon,

I want to start by saying this piece is more significant than you may realize. It's true, many of us young men (especially young black men) dream of being super heroes— warriors of justice and good. Unfortunately there is no real paradigm for men in this world who can soar through the sky like fighter jets or supernatural aliens with super strength and laser eye vision. As controversial as it may be, I'd like to submit— maybe the super heroes are the problem.

I love watching men and women with super natural powers resisting the evil of their worlds; what could be more important than fighting for those who can't fight for themselves? The only issue is, we get so caught up in the fantasy that we are desensitized to the reality of our own impact. You don't think you make a difference?

Every time you walk in a room, the people there are forced to add you to the memory of their experience in that room. It's not because you demanded their attention. You make a difference simply by existing. When you write, those who choose to read have to live with that fact that there is a man on earth who thinks what you think and sees what you see and feels how you feel. This is far from insignificant. You are man who has a heart that is contrary to some of the evils in our world. Your heart is the gift the world needs. Your heart is the gift the world has been given. You make a huge difference but the super heroes make you think otherwise. Are their experiences telling you that you need to have some super power in order to matter? What fictitious foolishness!

The world is a matrix and we too often get lost in the fantasy forgetting to wake up and realize you don't have to have super natural powers to make a difference. You don't need laser eye vision or control over electricity and magnetism. Yes, these heroes did great things in their worlds but they are just parables. Our world is quite different and you don't need to be a hero, you are enough.

You don't need to "clean up your inner world" to help others in needs. Just choose to do it. We don't change our world but choosing ourselves, we change it by laying our lives down for others. This the message the heroes are trying to teach us. Lay down your life for the sake of others and you will not only save lives but you'll inspire life. God bless you my brother. 🙏🏾
